Summary
For my Intermediate Financial Accounting II class, my professor assigned students to research and teach portions of every chapter as part of the curriculum. I was given the task of helping teach part of Chapter 23 in our book, which included a method of preparing part of the Statement of Cash Flows. I had to research that chapter ahead of time, prepare what was the most pertinent information, and share my findings with the class. An added difficulty to this project was the fact that we were meeting through Zoom, which meant that I had to make sure I didn’t have any technical difficulties when I presented.

Reflection
As I began to research the information I needed for my presentation, I got excited. After all of the research experiences I’d had at MSU, I was ready to tackle this presentation head-on! I began my project by finding the most pertinent part of the chapter to include in my timed presentation (Synthesis lv. 1). Much of what was being covered in Chapter 23 of that class was review from a previous Accounting class I’d taken, and so I was able to very efficiently prepare my research. As a kinesthetic learner, I gain the most understanding of a topic when I can see, hear, and experience the information, so I tried to incorporate all of those aspects into my presentation – to best reach all types of learners. I decided that the best medium would be a PowerPoint Presentation, since I could easily help my audience digest the information verbally and audibly that way (Dissemination lv. 1). I found it somewhat difficult to decide what to include. I had to include enough information to positively assist learning without overloading the presentation with visual aids in such a way that it would detract from the overall learning experience. After deciding what should be included, I was ready to present! After presenting, I reflected that my fellow students seemed engaged for the most part, and I was commended by the professor for giving a good presentation (Dissemination lv. 3).
I will be applying this experience to my future career as a CPA by continuing to develop my ability to share information in a concise and clear fashion during meetings and in audit deliverables.
